The Folk Song Society of Greater Boston is pleased to present three outstanding artists, Ed Trickett, Gordon Bok, and Ann Mayo Muir for its March concert. This popular trio, who are also highly regarded as individual performers, have been performing together since 1975. Even though the trio share the concert stage, each retains his or her own musical identity, often performing as many solo songs as they do collectively. Sea songs, songs from other countries, dances, classical pieces, stories, cantefables, and an array of instrumental combinations are part of their repertoire.
Gordon Bok plays six and twelve string guitars as well as a hybrid instrument called the "cellamba" and a Bok-whistle, which he designed and made. He is a poet, woodcarver, instrument builder, and songwriter. He derives much of his musical inspiration from years spent as a professional sailor and is well known for singing traditonal songs of the sea, its legends and people, and his own songs and stories. Gordon has performed in many countries and his deep distinctive baritone voice is recognized and revered throughout the folk music world.
Ann Mayo Muir, a talented singer of contemporary and traditional folk songs, is also an actress, potter, and artist. She plays a twelve -stringed "Bell" guitar, six- stringed guitar, classical baritone ukulele, traditional six- holed whistle, flute, and harp. She has performed throughout the United States, Great Britain, and Europe, both in concert and theater productions.
Ed Trickett ,who performed for the society last February, has toured throughout the United States and Great Britain. He plays six and twelve string guitars, hammered dulcimer, and piano. He is a collector of rare and beautiful versions of traditional and contemporary songs, which he shares with his audience.
The trio have recorded nine albums for Folk Legacy Records. They have a two volume compilation set celebrating their first fifteen years together, which is available on compact disks. Sandy Paton of Folk Legacy Records writes, "Ed, Ann, and Gordon have remarkable, almost uncanny , individual abilities to really listen to one another while they are making music. The result, in concert or on recordings, is an unusual merging of three distinct musical personalities into a single unit that sucessfully retains and reflects the unique talents of each---merging, but never submerging."
A concert given by this outstanding trio should not be missed. Since many of their songs have choruses, audience participation will be encouraged. You will not regret attending this concert.
