Lorraine Lee & Bennett Hammond

Lorraine Lee & Bennett Hammond
Sat. Dec 7 1996, 8:00 p.m.
First Parish Church, 35 Church Street, Watertown, MA

The Folk Song Society is pleased to present the Boston based duo Lorraine Hammond & Bennett Hammond in concert. Lorraine and Bennett play in perfect complement; they blend their instruments and create a magical new voice for tunes, many of them original, that range in style from classical music through Celtic, blues and contemporary. They sing both traditional and original songs, reflecting a variety of influences from American and European traditions. Their interpretations of traditional music attests to their ability to hear fresh sounds in antique songs.

Lorraine Hammond is perhaps the foremost Appalachian dulcimer player in New England, if not the world. After two decades of concerts, workshops, and teaching, she can take much of the credit for the instrument's popularity in the region.

Bennett Hammond is a superb finger-style guitarist with a penchant for an occasional Hank Williams song. He, along with Lorraine, produce some of the finest acoustic music around. Together, they are simply magical.

Appalachian Dulcimer Books & Cassettes by Lorraine Hammond:

NOTE: Their holiday album, "Peace on Earth," should be available for sale at the concert. Scott Alarik has called this "a thoroughly graceful and beautiful record-guaranteed holiday stress-reducer." (And a great gift idea, by the way!)
