A bunch of us got the opportunity to meet and hear Vic Legg at Pinewoods Camp a few years ago. There was no question that we had to try to get this talented and interesting man to Boston for a concert. Vic comes from Cornwall in England and brings with him a rich heritage from the singing of his grandparents and aunts who were "settled" travelers who all lived together on a small tract of land.
From this close family setting came songs of the travelling life, versions of ballads, mouth music for dancing, and songs to please the children - many of these were new to us at camp that year. But this was just a beginning and Vic went on to form a folk song club in 1968 which gave him some exposure and the opportunity to travel around England to perform and to hear the music of others.
Vic became interested in the traditional songs of the seasons, joined the Bodman Traditional Wassailers, and quickly built a repertoire of material for the Christmas and New Year, for the spring (May) festivals and for the harvest.
Vic is truly just a "part-time" singer with a full-time job that makes it difficult for him get away for a tour, so be sure to catch him this time as who knows when the next will be.
Since Vic will surely put us in the mood for singing, we're following the concert with a singing party starting at 4:00PM. We hope you'll come for both, but if you can't make it for the concert then come for the singing anyway.
