Moira Craig is a powerful unaccompanied singer of the Scottish tradition. She is making her first trip to the U.S., and for lovers of the old songs she is worth a trip to hear. Jerry Epstein says of her: "When I heard Moira I was quite bowled over, and I am virtually NEVER bowled over."

She was born outside of Glasgow in a small farming town called East Kilbride where her family has lived for generations. There was always music and singing at home. Her father and grandfather both played fiddle and both her parents were good singers. "We were very used to making our own entertainment."

At family parties her brothers and she took turns singing and entertaining. Everyone sang or played and it could be anything from the latest "pop" song, the old songs and ballads to music hall or whatever anyone fancied singing. She moved to London in 1983.to work as a nurse and singing has taken up most of her life outside of work since that time. She sings Scottish traditional songs primarily, although the occasional English or Irish song will sneak in. She is widely known as being among the best ballad singers around, and loves looking for different or unusual versions.

She has performed at many festivals, primarily in England and has run ballad sessions at many. She has been involved in workshops on singing styles, decoration in singing, telling stories in song and similar topics. She is recorded on one CD of Celtic women singers, and her first solo CD is scheduled for release in September.
