Folk Song Society members who have heard Salt of the Earth's wonderful CD are delighted at the thought of experiencing the group in concert. This quartet comes highly recommended from Newcastle upon Tyne, in the northeast of England, where it was created in 1998 to perform unaccompanied traditional songs, as well as some modern material written in the traditional vein. Occasionally a concertina accompaniment is used. Quartet members are Danny and Joyce McLeod and Barrie and Ingrid Temple. Barrie is the concertina player.

The group's wide repertoire covers themes of love, hate, war, death and songs of the sea -- and the harmonies are beautifully blended. Although Salt of the Earth is relatively new, word is out on the folk grapevine that this is an exciting group to hear. It doesn't hurt that praise has come from strong folk performers such as Bob Walser and Dave Webber -- and FSSGB program committee members are all eager to buy their own copies of the quartet's CD "Tomorrow's Tide."

This concert promises to be a delight, so come along and join in the fun!
