The Portsmouth Shanty Men of Hampshire, England have been in existence since 1978 when they made their debut at the Christchurch Folk Festival in Dorset, England. They have been singing together as an a capella group at major festivals in the UK and Europe, folk clubs, schools, historic sailing ships, and many other venues ever since. Over the years, they have collected a wide variety of sea songs from traditional sources and many modern songwriters including Tom Lewis, one of the founding members of the group. The Portsmouth Shanty Men are Sooty Broughton, Nick Gough, Brian Ingham, and Peter Luscombe. They will be touring New England and the Mid-Atlantic states during September and October to perform at several festivals including the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival in NH.
