This special John Conolly and Pete Sumner house concert promises to be an evening of hand-crafted songs and lilting music, performed with warmth, good humor, and a wide variety of instrumental textures.
John plays guitar, squeeze box, and tin whistle, and is an internationally known songwriter. Many of his songs have a tang of the sea, reflecting his upbringing on the East coast of England. His classic, "Fiddlers Green", along with "Punch and Judy Man" and many other powerful and evocative songs, have earned him a welcome at many leading Folk and Maritime Festivals. He is also a fine interpreter of the traditional songs collected by Percy Grainger in Lincolnshire at the turn of the century.
Pete supplies instrumental color with his skillful accompaniments on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and cittern. He learned his trade as a resident musician in the exotic ambiance of the Bermuda Folk Club, where he absorbed a variety of styles and techniques from many internationally-known performers. His instrumental versatility provides an ever-changing backdrop to John's thought-provoking lyrics.
John and Pete have played together for many years, and this long experience has developed a relaxed on-stage presence and an instrumental rapport. They are equally at home playing in folk clubs, theaters, festivals, on the deck of a sailing lugger, in the chimney-corner of the village pub, or in front of Irma's fireplace! In fact, after this cozy house concert with us, John and Pete will be headed for the Sea Music Festival at Mystic Seaport (June 11- 14). So if you can't make the festival, or you want a sneak preview, or you simply want an evening of top-notch music, make your reservation now!
